Geraldton Brick Works+ Freehold For Sale

Geraldton Brickworks is on a 14 hectare site located 16 kilometres south of Geraldton The Calligaro brothers began making bricks on this site in 1936.

Geraldton Brickworks Pty Ltd acquired the business in 1962 and developed and extended the factory into one of the most versatile regional plants in Australia with markets throughout Western Australia and Japan.

Geraldton Brick is the only clay brick and paving plant north of Perth in Western Australia. Currently the brickworks has a maximum capacity of 7 million bricks per annum.

However Geraldton Brick is now the exclusive agent, north of Jurien Bay, for BGC's new brick plant in Perth, which has a capacity of 120 million bricks per annum.

This has enabled Geraldton Brick to double its capacity by increasing its focus on speciality bricks at Geraldton and buying-in more standard bricks and pavers from BGC to service the north of Western Australia.

Geraldton Brick has established markets in the Mid-West region of Western Australia. It has also established itself as a major supplier to the North-West Pilbara region's expanding mining towns.

Geraldton is a thriving port city of 37,000 located 420 kilometres north of Perth. It is located on a spectacular stretch of coastline and is a 4 hour drive or 1 hour flight from Perth.

It is the administrative centre of the Mid-West's diverse industry base which includes fisheries, agriculture, iron ore production, manufacturing, construction and tourism.

Geraldton Brick owns Boutique Bricks WA which supplies premium specialty and match-up bricks for renovations and extensions to existing buildings throughout Western Australia.

Geraldton Brick has been exporting standard and specialty bricks and pavers to regular customers in Japan since 1989. FUTURE MARKETS Recent sales of premium specialty and match-up bricks to the eastern states have led to research into that market.

Geraldton Brick is the largest of very few brick manufacturers in Australia that can make to order. Plans are well under way to promote Geraldton Brick's unique ability to make-to-order or match-up bricks for the restoration or extension of historic, period and architect-designed projects.

POTENTIAL IMPROVEMENTS There is surplus making capacity to increase production. This will require the building of an additional kiln and dryer to fit this increased production. The lucrative specialty and match-up market will require a bolstering of Geraldton Brickworks' image and presence throughout Australasia.

The recent catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in Japan will necessitate a huge amount of rebuilding. Geraldton Brick has established customers in Japan and is uniquely placed, with existing contacts and proven ability, to manufacture standard and specifically designed bricks for rebuilding projects that are envisaged to last for many years.

The imminent construction of multi-billion dollar deep-water port and rail facilities at Oakajee, just 20 kilometres north of Geraldton, is expected to have a great impact on construction supplies not only at Oakajee but also at Geraldton, which is the only large fully developed population centre for 400 kilometres.

It is envisaged that ancillary building in both locations will require large-scale production of bricks for a number of years.
